Grinning and Bearing It
OK, so I am finally getting on the blogwagon. Great to hear from everybody. Glad to hear that those of you on the left coast survived the tremblor. Although, I don't think it could quite compare to the harrowing adventures that some of us experienced this past weekend. We spent the weekend paddling in the Apostles. Amazing time, but definitely the most exhausting vacation I have had in a while. The trip started with a close encounter of the ursine kind, way too close. Its ok, he only made off with George's camera case (sans camera) and sleeping bag... and the trip ended with a death defying paddle back to the mainland in 2ft, 3ft, 4ft swells (from which I was conveniently plucked out by my friends on the sailboat). George and Mike continued the paddle with Cindy in tow (literally). But we all made it...Bearly.

Quakes and more
Nice earthquake we had Friday morning around 4:40 am - 4.2 centered a couple miles south of our house. Montclair (village the foot of the hill) had some damage - blown out storefront windows and some store shelves emptied nicely onto floors. Our windows rattled pretty loudly but no damage we have noticed. Good reminder we need to expand our earthquake kit. We've got enough food for a few days I think, especially with the deer that wander by. Need to get one of those automatic gas shut off valve thingies.
Sooo ready to go to Mexico on Wednesday night. Wednesday is Tricia's last day at her current job before moving on to Cigna so should be an extra sweet vacation for her.
Josh, Tonya, Tricia, and I went to Walnut Creek today, the 105 degree suburban shopping mecca just over the hill to the east. Let's see, Josh had to use the bathroom a lot, Tonya coveted a Macbook Pro, and we spent 2 hours in Crate & Barrel trying to decide which couch to buy. I think we almost made a decision! Woohoo! New couches all around. Ok, I briefly coveted a iMac. Think that's gonna happen soon.
Hope everyone had good weekends.

hey- looking at the blog sites for adventure races. The first 2 look a little more gear intensive with the kayaks involved, though the one in lake tahoe does look awesome and pretty cahllenging. The urban dare looks like a 2 person scavenger hunt. The last one (oyster something or other) looks perfect. Any interest? -george

Adventure races coming up.
George, you were asking about these. The Urban ones sound kind of cool too - trivia and random events while getting around the City. I'd like to check this out as well as do a more physical one. Any interest?

fortunately, as you can tell by picture comparison, Jacob is much better looking than his father. If he inherits his father's fashion sense, there will be no stopping him. Congrats on another excellent softball season! We miss you guys and thanks for starting up the blog- hopefully will help keep in better touch- we'll see. it's my first blog. very exciting.
as far as updates- Cindy and jacob are visiting grandma in kansas. They drive back up tomorrow and we move to our new house on Tuesday- so if you guys could come over to help with the heavy stuff, that'd be great. I finish work here this week- last day on call the 4th (man, they really stick it to ya when you leave) and start the next job in Duluth on the 23rd. Planning on relaxing alot between now and then. We're looking at the end of September or so to make a visit- let me know if there's a bad time to come out.
Lee and I are photographers at Ali's wedding. Moved up from wedding singer. unfortunately, the pay's about the same. You guys' all rock. Lee- see you this weekend. g.
