Oyster Race October 14th 8am

Josh is in - and I quote, "ok, G, but if we're in it, we're in it to win it!" Which means George and I need to start training. At least I do.

Registration for each team is $75 and each team (not individual) needs to raise $300 for a local charity. And for each additional $300 we raise we get a pass for someone to sit out a leg of the race...for example, if someone like Josh doesn't like roller blading.

I'll register a team for me, GJ, and JB.

Tonya and Tricia.. you guys in? Lee, they need a 3rd teammate...

The video on the site gives a good idea what it's like.

The Bonds Man

We'll go down in history...

Well, not us exactly, but Gareth and I were lucky enough to be present at the home field last night when Barry Bonds broke Hank Aaron's 755 home run record. The anticipation and the energy of the crowd every time BB went up to bat was almost as fun to be a part of as the second everyone realized the crowning moment was sailing through the air. Whether you love or hate BB, it was impossible not to cheer him on and not to be happy for him.

When I got the tickets six months ago my game choice was driven by the fact that the Giants were playing the Nationals. Given I'm a Bay Area resident with a DC/VA heart, I wanted to see my old home town's newest team play. As luck would have it Barry broke the record and the Nationals won the game. Turned out to be a great choice!

This just in: G and JB are celebrating the beginning of JB's 38th year at the ballpark with another BB home run! Josh, best wishes for a year filled with lots of love (TR has that covered), success (in the new job), and fun (that's what friends are for)!!
Happy Birthday!!!

New addition to the family

Thanks for the pics of Mexico, looks like you guys had a great time. As for goings on here, I did finally succumb to the need for a male in my life, only he is a bit younger -- 11 weeks to be exact (not 11 weeks younger, but 11 weeks).

His name is Wiley. Wiley was my dad's middle name. He is a schnauzer/husky mix (his mom was 20 pounds, father was 60 pounds - just try to get your head around that). The strange thing is he kind of looks like a tiny version of the bear we encountered a few weeks back (see my last blog), he's cuter though. I got him yesterday and have realized that my life is no longer my own. Potty training, chewy toys and picking up poop. He's awesome though.

I've been Simpsonized

That's right friends, yours truly, is a character and will be a character in an upcoming Simpson's episode in the fall, watch your local listing for further details.

The episode is about a small town boy that moves to Springfield to find that working at the nuclear power plant has given him the strength of Superman, without the ability to fly. Our hero, along with his trusty sidekick (a gentle giant), save Springfield from a reactor failure. I can't give away all the details, but suffice to say the giant lifts our hero up to turn a level that was believed to be impossible to turn...what a team!

These two lads go onto to marry the hottest chicks in SF, um, I meant Springfield and also have friends that live in Minnesota.

Musings...

I am in between jobs with too much time on my hands and no one to play with. So I am finally going to do my part to keep Gareth's blog dream alive with a few musings.
  • Vacaciones: Volvimos (me, G, J and T (aka the Baumfields, Redrinds, Redbaums, etc.), de Ixtapa, Mexico el Miercoles. Excepto la venganza de Montezuma en Tonya y Josh, esto era unas vacaciones de relajación agradables. Me sentí realmente mal para Tonya, sin embargo, debo confesar que lo creo es la única cura al síndrome de Superhombre de Josh. For translation, http://translation2.paralink.com/. Spanish to English doesn't translate perfectly, so it will be a little like solving a riddle to know what I meant to say versus what this says I am saying...but you'll get the gist. G and T have some good pictures to share. My favorite is Josh wearing a big Mexican sombrero (Tonya, will you post?) we found one evening while walking on the beach. Unfortunately, we couldn't bring it home because it wouldn't fit on the plane.
  • Giant fly: The average life span of a fly is less than 24 hours. I've never been scared of flies but the one in our bathroom yesterday must have been alive for 24 days because it was as big as the hummingbird in our rose garden. I don't think there is a spider alive that could have taken this thing out. Luckily, carpet cleaner and G could!
  • Bed Bath & Beyooooond: Spent the morning at every one's favorite household superstore. Today's purchases were a clothes steamer (I highly recommend ditching the iron and going the steamer route!), and hamper to replace "the pile" method Gareth has been using. We'll see how it goes. So far he's been able to find a workaround to any attempt to keep him organized that I've made. He's clever like that.
  • New job, bad dream: You know that feeling of relief you have when you wake up from a bad dream? I woke up this morning after dreaming I showed up for my new job with no clothes on. Not just a missing shoe or in my underwear...butt naked! No one seemed to think it odd but I couldn't wait to go home. Tonya, I may need your mom's help to figure out what that was about!
With the exception of the four deer grazing in our backyard right now, that's how exciting life is at the moment. Hope ALL you readers out there are doing well. See you Minnesotans in the fall?
